Southern California’s most Scenic Half Marathon

LaceUp Palos Verdes is Southern California’s most scenic half marathon and the race you have to check-off. What began as a picturesque marathon in the 1960s, has earned a reputation throughout the running community as one of the nation’s most challenging and iconic races. In fact, it was the country’s second-oldest continuously run marathon until it evolved into a Half Marathon, 10k and 5k as part of the LaceUp Running Series in 2014.

Participants start and finish above the scenic Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes. The course follows the road through grandiose residential neighborhoods with million dollar homes and flows along scenic coastal cliffs with views of Catalina Island in the distance. The course is known for its hills. It will be your race challenge of the year. But there is plenty to celebrate once you finish. Relax with a celebratory Sierra Nevada toast and brunch or enjoy free massages overlooking spectacular sea cliffs in the Lexus Lounge. Take advantage of this race and spa getaway only an hour from Los Angeles.

Half Marathon

The Palos Verdes Half Marathon is Southern California’s most scenic Half Marathon. The Nov. 18, 2017 event will also include 10K and 5K racing opportunities. Grab your best running friends and register for the Half Marathon today!

 

When: November 18, 2017—7:00 a.m.

Where: Pelican Cove Park, 31300 Palos Verdes Dr. S

 

The Half Marathon will start and finish above the scenic Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes. The course runs south on Palos Verdes Dr., gradually uphill, before a turn near Wayfarers Chapel. Runners will pass Pelican Cove and the iconic Point Vicente Lighthouse, before turning left onto Calle Entradero. Continue on past beautiful Palos Verdes homes and return to Palos Verdes Dr.

Runners will then turn left on Via Pacheco before reaching the highest point on the course. From here, racers will drop onto Paseo del Mar and run right next to the ocean and past Lunada Bay, a well-known surf spot. Runners will then turn around near Bluff Cove before heading back toward the finish at Pelican Cove Park. When you arrive at the expo area, relax and enjoy one of the many LaceUp Running Series perks – you’ve earned it.

Palos Verdes

 

When: November 18, 2017—7:05 a.m.

Where: Pelican Cove Park, 31300 Palos Verdes Dr. S

 

The 5K will start and finish above the scenic Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes. The course runs north on Palos Verdes Dr., past Pelican Cove Park and the Alta Vicente Reserve. Runners will climb past the Point Vicente Lighthouse, one of the area’s jewels.

After the short climb, runners will reach the highest point on the course before turning left on Calle Entradero. Runners will hit the turnaround shortly after, and return to Pelican Cove Park and the expo area while enjoying a downhill finish.

Can another runner pick up my packet for me?

  • Yes! All they need is a copy of your ID (phone photo works).

What if I can’t make it to packet pick-up at all? It is HIGHLY recommended to pick up your packet on Friday; However, there will be race day packet pick-up at the start line starting at 5:45 a.m. If you are picking up on race day PLEASE arrive one hour prior to your start time. Same-day packet pick-up will close 15 minutes before each race.

Can I change my race distance?

If you have signed up for a race but would like to change your distance, you can easily do that. Just locate your confirmation email and follow the instructions.

Can I refund my entry?

Participants may receive refunds if they purchase the $8.00 refund insurance during registration. Participants can request a %100 refund of their registration fee, including processing fees, if they are unable to attend due to covered reasons such as injury, illness, pregnancy and unexpected travel delays. If no insurance is purchased, no refunds will be given.

Are the race venues ADA accessible?

Yes, but please contact info@laceuprunningseries.com for specific details.

Are strollers allowed?

Strollers are allowed at all LaceUp events.

How do I earn a challenge medal?

All LaceUp runners must complete a race of any distance all four locations. In addition to individual location medals, each challenge runner will receive a limited edition LaceUp Running Series Challenge medal after the completion of all four races. Learn more about the challenge medal.

Do I get a discount for registering for multiple LaceUp races?
Yes! Register for your second race at 10% off, third race at 15% off, and your fourth race at 20% off. Discounts are automatically applied, and you must register for additional LaceUp events in one transaction to receive the discount.
Will there be pacers?

Yes, there will be pacers for each half marathon and marathon. Please refer to each race location for pacing times.

How do I become a Lexus LaceUp pacer?
Please contact Vanessa Kline at info@beastpacing.com if you’re interested in being a pacer.
Where can I get my results?

Results will be available at the Lexus space in the Health and Fitness expo area. In addition, results will also be posted online on the Laceup Running Series Website.

Will there be aid stations on course?

There will be aid stations approximately every two miles on each course and at the finish line. Aid stations will be stocked with Nuun and Clif Bar product.

What is the time limit on the course?

There is a four-hour time limit on the Half Marathon courses. Participants need to maintain a 18:20 minute/mile pace. Ventura marathon time limit is six hours.

Can I pick up my packet on race day?

It’s highly recommended that athletes stop by our pre-race packet pick up, but packet pick up will be available on race day. Come early, because packet pick up will close 30 minutes before each race.

What if I cannot finish the race?

If you cannot complete the course there will be a vehicle available to bring you back to the finish line, so you can enjoy the Health and Fitness Expo and post-race brunch.

Where can I check my gear during the event?

There is a secure Gear Check available for all participants. You can drop off your items before the race and pick them up after the event.

Can I transfer my entry?

Entry fees can be transferred to another participant. Any difference of fees will be charged, plus a $10 processing fee. Entries can also be transferred to another LaceUp Running Series location. If transferring to another location, a request must be made three days before the event the participant was originally registered.

What are the age group categories?
Age group categories are 9 and under; 10-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85+. Age group prizes will be awarded to the top finisher in each age group. If an age group category above 85 has 5 or more participants, an age group prize will be awarded. Overall winners will not qualify for age group prizes.

 

Is there an age minimum?

Participants must be eight years or older to participate. Participants under the age of eight will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. Please email if interested.

Can I run a different distance than I am registered for?

Participants can transfer distances. Participants transferring to a longer distance will be charged the applicable difference in registration fees, and participants transferring to a shorter distance will not be offered a refund. Please email if interested in changing your race distance.

What is included in the registration fee?

Every participant will receive a LaceUp tech-tee, re-usable race bag, high-quality finisher’s medal, timing chip, bib, food truck brunch, Sierra Nevada beer and free race photo. Learn more about racer perks, HERE.

Are bikes, skateboards, inline skates, dogs or skateboards allowed?

For safety reasons, no bikes, skateboards, inline skates, dogs, or skateboards will be allowed on course.

Can I use headphones during the race?

For safety reasons, we don’t recommend wearing headphones during the race. If runners choose to wear headphones during a race, we request they use a low volume enabling them to hear runners and traffic around them.

How do I become a Lexus LaceUp Running Series brand ambassador?
 Our ambassador team is no longer accepting applications. Please check back soon.
How do I sign up for the Team Relay
  1. The team captain will register themselves for the Team Relay and be sure to set up the group/team on the first page of registration.
  2. The team captain will pay the registration fee for the relay and is responsible for collecting payment from team members outside of our registration system.
  3. Once the captain is registered and the team is set up the Captain can let their friends know the team is set up and that they can join the team.
  4. For the remaining members, they will register for the OC Marathon Relay and will need to join the group/team that the Captain set up when registering.
  5. Each team allows for 5 team members and once 5 members have registered the team will be set and will not allow anyone else to join that team.
